Water Supply Disruption in Delhi Prompts Precautionary Measures and Ministerial Action

Residents Advised to Store Water as Interconnection Work Affects Several Areas

Delhi residents are bracing for a two-day disruption in water supply as the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) announces an interconnection project that will impact various areas, including Rohini. The interconnection work, set to take place at the Keshopur drain and the Peeragarhi Chowk, will result in a shutdown from Wednesday to Thursday. To mitigate inconveniences, residents have been urged to store sufficient water based on their needs, with the DJB ensuring the availability of water tankers upon request.

In an official statement on X, the DJB detailed the schedule for the interconnection work, specifying a shutdown period from 10 am to 10 pm on November 29. During this time, water supply in several colonies and areas is expected to either be unavailable or experience low pressure, affecting residents from the evening of November 29 to the morning of November 30.

The areas directly impacted by the interconnection work include Rohini Sector-7, 8, 9, 11, 13, 22, 23, and 25, along with Madhuban Chowk, Mangolpuri, Sultanpuri, Paschim Vihar, Major Bhupender Singh Nagar, Mahavir Nagar, Krishna Park, Janakpuri, and their adjoining areas, as outlined by the DJB.

Acknowledging the potential inconvenience, the DJB has assured residents that water tankers will be readily available on request. This proactive measure aims to address the temporary disruption and ease the impact on daily life during the specified interconnection work.

In a separate water-related development, Delhi’s Water Minister, Atishi, has raised concerns about complaints of contaminated water in New Friends Colony. Atishi emphasized the responsibility of the Delhi Jal Board to ensure that every resident in Delhi receives clean and sufficient water. She has called for immediate attention to the issue, demanding a resolution within 48 hours and a compliance report from the DJB.

The minister’s statement underscores the importance of swift action to address water quality concerns, particularly in residential areas. Atishi has emphasized that exemplary action will be taken against officers responsible for any laxity, ensuring that such issues are promptly resolved and do not recur in the future. The directive aims to uphold the commitment to providing clean and safe water to all residents of Delhi.
